The Ashgate Research Companion to Popular Musicology $154.95 The research presented in this volume is very recent, and the general approach is that of rethinking popular musicology: its purpose, its aims, and its methods. Contributors to the volume were asked to write something original and, at the same time, to provide an instructive example of a particular way of working and thinking. The essays have been written with a view to helping graduate students with research methodology and the application of relevant theoretical models. Useful, well researched academic work on Japanese Music,
This book provides the most recent and comprehensive academic study on the rich variety of Japanese music written from the perspective of both native Japanese and non-Japanese experts in the various areas covered.
Where William P Malm’s “Japanese Music and Musical Instruments” left off, this erudite volume provides extensive and further detail on the various genres of music found in Japan, including traditional Japanese music as well as more modern music as influenced from outside Japan.
This is a worthy and most useful addendum to the ethnomusicologist’s library, as well as the library of any one interested in Japanese music.
