Foreword by Will Smith. Influenced in no small part by the powerful mentors in his own youth, the award-winning educator and acclaimed author of I Choose to Stay offers a commonsense, inspiring road map to mentoring kids to thrive in today’s challenging world—and creating a legacy of success for generations to come. With over twenty years of experience helping hundreds of troubled children excel academically and personally, Salome Thomas-EL has an action plan that all of us—educators, businesspeople, volunteers, relatives, and everyday folks—can use to reach out to the young people in our lives. By identifying the most important areas in which mentors can affect the lives of young people, Thomas-EL shows how you can be of influence in ways you may not expect. Whether you decide to provide a professional influence by exposing youth to the dynamics of the workplace, or a healthy influence by modeling participation in sports and showing how to make healthful food choices, or an influence in good character through interactions that demonstrate respect, friendship, and discipline, you’ll find that the immortality of influence is achievable in every arena of life. Anything is possible when kids are given our time, taught to care for themselves and others, and led by our example—not only at home, but in the community at large. For any caring adult, this book is an essential guide to making a difference—not just for today, but forever. Praise for I Choose to Stay. “Intensely moving…The redemptive power of a teacher’s love shines through these pages with prophetic grace.” —Jonathan Kozol

Vizio XVT3D650 Review

Read Vizio XVT3D650SV Review below to make you sure before you buy this TV set.

So you know where I’m received from, I’m replacing a 50″ Samsung plasma. I have a amount of various sized flat panels around the house and a home theater from the basement. I just had my 720p Mitsy projector replaced which has a Sony (STR-DA3600ES) and also Avatar on Blu-Ray blew everyone away (108″ screen). I consider myself a great enthusiast, but in no way an authority. Anyway, onward…

Out of the box experience – Fantastic. The box is stunning, the instructions on the top tell you how in order to easily (for such a big TV) unnecessary the clips and sleeve-off this box.

Set up – Could hardly be simpler. Quick start guide can be accurate. Instructions manual is within English only, not 7 languages, and is plainly written, not some computer converted Chinese. I couldn’t get the Vizio remote to regulate the DirecTV box nevertheless. Will have to search for a code I suppose. Not a biggie. Will get it. (Edit: Thanks to AVS Forum, someone pointed out I’ve got to have my receiver collection to RF mode in Remote device set up. I changed it to be able to IR, and voilà, all set. I had to “Try The subsequent Code” to get around Code 4. All set). Luckily, my 2-year old radio is 3D ready : HR21-700. DirecTV said just “plug it in, the receiver will walk you with the set up once that recognizes the 3D TV”. Not quite right, for me anyway, but a restart in the receiver and I was installed and operating.

2D-HD – I started with Kill Bill 2 on TNTHD plus it looked great. Some HD looks better than others, not surprisingly. For example, 30 Rock must use some kind of softening lens.

AppleTV (720p) – YouTube looks a little better than I thought it might. From Apple’s movie listing, previews of 300 and the Bucket List looked well-defined. Netflix streaming looked just like it did on my own 50″ Sammy, and that’s a good thing. Photos from Mobile Everyone via my iPhone viewed great.

3D on DirecTV : Started with n3D, which I now realize is incredibly analogous to Mark Cuban’s HDNET in the early days of HD. It’s where you should go for the fun original impression. A lot of scenic/nature articles. It impresses right apart.

Family take – 11-year aged boy loves it. Despicable Me in 3d images is wow-ing him. 15-year old daughter too. I prefer the high quality glasses, but the kids much like the basic ones. Daughter’s friend was tickled the basic (flat) glasses fit over her eye glasses. Wife’s first reaction has been good, then made a comment about this making her cross-eyed, then backed up along with liked it. She is also the majority of impressed with Despicable Everyone and says it senses less gimmicky than earlier 3D experiences (wherever something just jumps out at you sometimes).

3D sports – My partner and i downloaded the National Champion game (Auburn versus Oregon) via DirecTV and although I like it better than the particular active shutter, I’m not sure I wouldn’t prefer an ordinary crisp HD for activities. I watch a great deal of sports, and my initial a reaction to sports in 3D along with both passive 3D (this set) and active 3D (the other available 3D technology) is mixed at nowadays.

Vizio 3D Blu-Ray player – Started with Dinosaurs, IMAX Under The Beach, Alice in Wonderland, and Polar Express. The player is quick and intuitive using the Internet app screen because the main screen. Disney’s Alice in Wonderland is usually fabulous and I’m nearly all surprised by how eye-catching the image depths tend to be. IMAX Under The Sea provides the cool IMAX 3D number countdown in the beginning – fun. The sea images give “whoa” reactions in the family. This is THE 3 dimensional Blu-Ray to throw with first – Jim Carrey narrated as well as beautiful. The tech of the whole lot falls away after a short while and the experience is immersive after that. The player is snappy.

3D thoughts, as this set is actually passive 3D (or active 3D)

Passive 3D gets anything right it claims, IMO. The glasses are light and easy. It’s nice they are usually inexpensive (I bought10 twos of RealD glasses from Amazon for $25 10 – Pairs – Brand-new Sealed – 3D Round Polarized 3D Glasses same as RealD for Disney Digital -Legend with the Guardians (10 Frames) -they work wonderful). Also easy to sit and glance down within my lap top on occasion. I surely don’t wish I was concered about the active 3D syncing, battery life, and if someone might sit on them. My brother-in-law walked inside and I tossed a couple of glasses across the space. He slapped them in and said “Wow, that’s awesome”. He also has 3 kids under 6 years old. No way he actually buys $100 glasses (which is what the active version of 3D requires) for your bunch.;)

The knocks on passive 3D undoubtedly are a little over stated for me personally. You’ll find these concerns in the event you surf around the world wide web researching 3D TV possibilities.

- Claim: “Black lines” – They are (barely) right now there, however, they only are appreciable should you get within 3-4 feet with the screen. I liken it towards the screen door effect. If the TV is big enough so you get close enough, you’ll see them. This concern ended up as being a no-big-deal item.

- Claim: “Turning head sideways damages the 3D” – no. Not an issue.

- Claim: “The 3D-ness severely degrades having off-angle viewing” – Not personally. It does lessen a little though. Otherwise, walking around the room gives a yoyo-ing 3D image that follows you. Cool.

- Claim: “Half resolution” thing – Didn’t even occur to me when watching the idea. No comments from loved ones about less of anything where picture quality goes.

- Claim: “Cross talk” – Definitely not seeing it. Maybe if some one particular pointed it out in my experience?

More thoughts…

It is high gloss and I am able to see where a heavily windowed room may be an issue. Fine for me with flanking windows along with a (non-windowed) wall facing it.

Make sure your space are designed for a 65-incher. I’d recommend being at least 8 ft away, with 10+ ft becoming better. This thing is huge.

I think I’m technically spoiled by HD and from now on 3D as standard def is getting harder to watch. Not sure if this can be the TV or just me.

Final thoughts…

My ordered list of priorities once i bought this TV had been size, price point, and then 3D. Well, the size is significantly (just not a little bit) bigger than my 50-incher – verify. The price was suitable at 3G’s – verify. The 3D has certainly exceeded my expectations — check. The 2D has met my hopes in that I’m very happy with the black levels (although there’re not as deep as being a plasma). For me, this is a excellent gen-

Vizio 3D TV. I’m sure future years brings 4K2K and improved technological, but at a price tag. For today, this hit the area and was an incremental progress over my 2-yr old Samsung plasma.

Update (7/5/11) — After 5 months, I had to revisit and bump my ranking from 4 to 5 personalities. Long gone are the days of over-analyzing this TV. The longer I purchased it, the more I appreciate it. No regrets. (Tip: Get Tron Legacy three dimensional. O-M-G).
